Hi, I'm Alex.
I've decided to start a compilation of the things, people, and places that I love as a sort of, creative outlet— this may just be another Gemini-esque attempt of me to start yet another thing that doesn't go much of anywhere (I have about 10 books sitting on my shelf half read), but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. Bare with me as I'm new at this whole blogging thing— I'm going to do my best to share with you my interests and passions, without boring you to death.
I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself first, seeing as this is the 'About Me' page. Well first, like I mentioned, I'm a Gemini (no matter what NASA says!) and while I'm no devout horoscope believer, I do embody the Gemini characteristics to a tee. As the Gemini I am, I like to take on a lot of things and I have a ton of interests: fashion, interior design, crafts, HGTV (yes that's an interest of its own), and most of all learning (nerd alert!). However, anyone who knows anything about Geminis knows that their curious minds and tendency to take on a lot also subsequents their lack of follow-through on their many ventures (womp womp). This blog is my attempt to focus in on the more creative aspects of life I love so much, and that I don't give enough attention to. I'm hoping this blog, and any of you reading this, hold me accountable to make time for all the things I love!
In conjunction with my creative side, I'm also a math-loving, textbook reading, meticulous note-taking, nerd. This is the side of myself that I've actually been very good at following through on for the past several years. I graduated from Fordham University in 2015 with my undergraduate degree in psychology: I'm absolutely fascinated with why people think the way they do and why people do the things they do. As simple as that. I originally wanted to be a Psychologist and intended on applying to PhD programs directly after graduation, but I soon realized that that career direction didn't take on any form of creativity, and wouldn't fulfill me. I began working as a Research Intern for a marketing company within the behavioral healthcare space during my Senior year, and became a full time Research Assistant right after graduation. About a year into 'real-life’, my Gemini kicked in, I got antsy, and I realized that I needed to get back to school ASAP. I got my Master's in Marketing Intelligence from Fordham's Gabelli School of Business (yes, I'm a Ram through-and-through) part-time as I continued to develop my career in market research. I finished my Master's this past summer, and while I feel very accomplished and am excited to further my career as a market researcher, I know it won't be the last time in school — I'm just too much of a nerd to stop forever.
For now though, while I have my next academic bucket list item freshly checked off, I want to focus on my more creative interests. So here we are with this blog. Thus far I've told you I'm a gemini, love creativeness + crafts, am a nerd, and have a hard time following through on the many things I take on, so what else? Oh, right. I'm also your very very stereotypical twenty-five year old living in New York City: I live in a small SoHo apartment with two of my best friends, Zan and Kath, and while we pay way too much for rent and my bank account indicates I should be eating Ramen every night for dinner, I wouldn't change my NYC life for anything. New York is an amazing place and the city has so much to offer, but my favorite thing about NYC by far is the fact that almost all of my friends live here and without my besties, I seriously do not know what I would do (so for all my friends reading this, don’t get any ideas about moving away).
I think I’ve covered most everything, so here’s to new adventures!
xo,
Alex
